If you want to restore the program on the same computer, we recommend that you use the same method that you first used Control Panel or DISM.

Because Internet Explorer remains installed on the computer after you disable it, you should continue to install security updates that apply to Internet Explorer.

To do this, follow these steps:. For example, to disable Internet Explorer 11, follow these steps. Skip to main content. Ditto on the workaround not fixing this. Also ran the Fix It which did not help either. This was a clean install on a Dell Latitude.

Glad I found this thread or I would have been screwing with this for hours trying to figure it out. Worked for me on 2 different systems.

IE9 originally installed using offline installer with silent switch. Fixed both by removing the IE9 update, then letting it install through WU. Hoperfulle the solution will be solved in Windows Update, and that we dont have to uninstall every IE 9 from now on, to install a new one without the problem.

I am having the same problem as well. When I try to install, I get an error. Since this was a clean install and I hadn't really done anything yet, I figured I would try again so I reinstalled Windows, and this time installed IE9 first using the standalone redistributable package instead. I agree that this seems to be a Windows Update problem with detecting IE9 properly, and I also agree that it doesn't seem to be a problem on existing computers, just fresh installs after this most recent patch Tuesday.

Microsoft, are you listening? I'm wasting precious write cycles on my SSD reinstalling Windows! Basically, the current IE9 binaries are bad, and you need to install IE9 using the older version without updates or internet connectivity.

I think this occurs because, during the setup of my system clean install and subsequant Windows Updates and reboots , I was presented with the "Browser Choice" icon on my desktop.

I used it to install IE9 before the windows updates sessions had marked Internet Explorer for an update. Therefore, when the time came for Windows Update to update IE9, it was already there.

This issue could be serious because it stops IE9 updates from being detected. I just rebooted after running a remaining update and still no IE9 prompt, so i think someone over there finally fixed it. I am going to build the 2 VM Servers i was originally supposed to and let you know how those go in about an hour or so. When I got to update, it gives me the Code 9C48, and when I try auto detection from windows update to troubleshoot it, it always fixes the same 4 things:.

It fixes these same things every time I run the Troubleshooter after the IE9 update fails. I can't even uninstall IE9!!! I tells me that "An error has occurred. Not all of the updates could successfully be uninstalled.

Even upon opening IE9 to browse, I get the "Internet Explorer has stopped working" and no solution to that either by troubleshooting it. Lucky I switched over to Chrome now. When I try to uninstall the existing IE9 I get could not uninstall. I have been getting the error 9C48 but i can't find ie9 to uninstall it any suggestions anyone.
