A precursor to U-Pass, the program allowed the university to pick up a percentage of a students' cost of ridership. Despite the welcome change of the Magic Key offerings, some fans are unhappy they just spent money on those resident tickets when a new passholder program — which costs about half of one of those resident tickets but is valid for an entire year — will start at the end of the month.
Another major concern is how limiting the blocked-out dates will be. Drought prompts California to halt some water diversions. National Night Out makes a comeback in Northern California. California Classic summer basketball showcase kicks off at Golden 1 Center. Natomas Unified parents will have option for in-person, remote learning. Dixie Fire: More evacuations ordered after 'explosive fire growth'.
Faculty will be available virtually during regular office hours, and technology is available to help facilitate virtual study groups and hangouts for students. Will the curriculum be different? The overall credit structure of the chiropractic program remains the same, but the sequence of when some of the content will be delivered will be reordered. Some coursework that has traditionally been taught in quarter 1 will not work in a remote environment.
That coursework will be pushed to a later quarter when it can be done in-person, while other content traditionally taught in later quarters will be taught sooner. The chiropractic profession is inherently a hands-on endeavor, so the first quarter of the program will include introductory, hands-on skills and techniques that can be taught virtually, then practiced remotely in your home.
In reordering the curriculum to accommodate online learning, the chiropractic program elected to move an introductory adjusting course Psychomotor Skills into the first quarter to help new students connect to the hands-on portion of the program right away. This reordering will prepare students for future terms in which they will be practicing hands-on adjustments and skills. The textbook list can be found here. All incoming students are required to purchase one of these two spine models to enhance the experience they have in their remote lab classes.
Anatomy labs will be remote and include video instruction of cadaver dissection. The overall content that will be taught is not changing, but the order of instruction has been modified to maximize hands-on learning in later quarters. Reordering the content in this way allows students to build a holistic foundation of knowledge in anatomy so they can focus on spinal and extremity specimens in later terms. How will I connect with faculty? In addition to some courses being taught in a live, synchronous lecture environment, faculty will also hold regular and flexible remote office hours to ensure students can ask questions and receive guidance.
You will also be assigned a specific faculty mentor who will help to orient you to the curriculum and philosophy, clinical practice and the professional as a whole. Academic tutoring, individual counseling and all other student support services are already being delivered in an online environment for current UWS students. The online model for these services has been so popular with current students that they are likely to remain as a virtual option indefinitely.
We care about our students and want them to have the optimal learning experience. The university had planned to offer in-person opportunities for quarter 1 students living in or visiting the Portland area but in order to be equitable and also consider the health and safety of our students we have developed virtual opportunities in Q1 to engage students and orient them to the program, its content, and its classroom and clinical instructors.
Q1 students will be placed in cohorts of students before the start of the program and assigned a faculty mentor for Q1. Throughout the first quarter, the faculty mentor will regularly engage the cohort with academic and professional instruction and guidance. The cohort model is designed to help Q1 students build relationships with classmates that will be in their in-person classes in subsequent quarters in the program.
By establishing these relationships early on, students will have a group they can study and learn with Q1 as well as throughout the DC program. Students who wish to utilize campus resources such as the library, fitness center, student services, or any other resource are welcome.
More information about accessing campus will be provided during Welcome Week.
