How to reinstall safely remove hardware icon

I have searched extensively and found answers Please do not give me really "techy" answers, I know the basics of my computer but everytime I start trying to solve, ie Right click notification area, then click Customize Notifications. Thanks for your feedback. Thank you Pat for all your info. I tried plugging in a USB I am a little nervous to do anything with the Windows registry. The 2nd suggestion - I would have to go to this each time I wanted to eject?? Should there not be a really simple solution to this?
